MPSI Beginning Strings Summer Intensive – Novato:
What? A three-week summer intensive strings music program for beginning Violin and Cello, ages 6-9. The program includes interactive group classes, private lessons and hands on training.
Where? At St. Francis Episcopal Church in Novato @ 967 Fifth Street, 94945.
When? July 6th – 25th, 2026
*Classes meet M – F from 9am – to 1:30pm. There will be a dress rehearsal on Sat., July 25th and a concluding student performance on the same day. Attendance on July 25th is mandatory for all students.
Why? MPSI is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for immigrant and underserved communities in Novato to learn and play music at a high level. The MPSI Summer Intensive is designed to provide a solid technical foundation for continued learning of violin or cello. The program is highly intensive and specialized for developing the skills needed for long-term success at the instrument of choice. The curriculum examines concepts such as correct posture, positioning of the instrument, correct bow hold, bowing motions, bow games, bow division, bow rhythms, open string exploration, sound production and ear training, all done through songs and games. At the end of camp, students will have the opportunity to continue learning their instruments during the school year should they wish to.
And of course, the overall benefits of music are undeniable. Music helps develop all aspects of the brain, including language, motor skills, intellectual development and emotional development.
Cost: The tuition is $750 per a child FOR ALL THREE WEEKS plus a one-time registration fee of $25. **FULL AND PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE (limited number) AND INSTRUMENTS ARE PROVIDED! At MPSI we strongly believe that financial hardship shouldn’t get in the way of learning, and we are invested in providing accessible high quality training TO ALL!
**Disclaimer: Due to the nature of the camp, we will not consider students who are unable to commit to the full duration of the camp for all three weeks.
